Mission Statement:
"Niger Delta Art Projects" is an independent non-profit art organization set up in the Niger Delta of Southern Nigeria as a collective platform that brings together visual and performance artists, musicians, art students, researchers, art historians, theoreticians, and critics from a plurality of cultural and disciplinary background.
The organization is dedicated to creating new "alternative" and "experimental" art projects through critical approach, strategies of social interventions, interdisciplinary practice, and cross-cultural dialogues that seeks to enhance the process of art and cultural development in the Niger Delta region.
Over the past twenty years, art and cultural sector in this all encompassing region has been underdeveloped and stifled by various oppressive social conditions, economic instability, educational retrogression and other prevalent hostile conditions that characterise the pattern of this contemporary societal ills.
Niger Delta Art Projects is committed to promoting and developing collaborative global networks and partnerships between local and international artists, culture groups, communities, institutions, companies, and stakeholders towards creating sustainable cultural values, artistic and environmental development that respond imperatively and strategically to the current social concerns in the Niger Delta.
Main Activities of the Organisation:
- Initiation of art workshops, lectures, and art educational platforms towards the revitalisation and hybridization of cultural forms from a plurality of cultures.
- Creation and production of new visual projects including installation art exhibition, social sculpture, performance arts, video and art film documentation.
- Publication of exhibition catalogues, artist monographs, and the development of visual archives, bibliographic files and data for art and cultural research.
